Queensland government partners with Johnson & Johnson to lure medical tech firms

24 September 2015 - Multinational healthcare product company Johnson & Johnson is launching a $100,000 contest for medical tech startups, as part of a Queensland government plan to entice life sciences businesses to the Sunshine State..

The competition is part of the state government's Advance Queensland package of initiatives announced in the budget, and is aimed at encouraging healthcare technology companies to base themselves there.

Chief executive of Johnson & Johnson's pharmaceutical company Janssen Australia and New Zealand, Chris Hourigan, said Queensland had a good reputation for research, but the commercialisation of ideas had historically been a struggle.

"There is already a strong life sciences community, but the big gap is in commercialisation," Mr Hourigan said.
