10 January 2019 - Cost increase for essential medicine comes as drugmakers face political pressure.
European drug makers Sanofi and Novo Nordisk have raised prices of insulin in the US, despite political pressure as diabetics protest and lobby lawmakers over the rising cost of the essential medicine.
Sanofi increased the price of its three main insulin brands by between 4.4% and 5.2% last week, while Novo Nordisk increased the price of its insulin products by just under 5% on Tuesday. Depending on the dose and brand, the list prices for insulin products vary between $300 and $400.
