Serious shortages substitution notice

PBAC

14 May 2020 - Where a serious shortages substitution notice has been issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and supported by the relevant state or territory regulations, a pharmacist may substitute medicines in accordance with the notice.

Medicines substituted under a serious shortages substitution notice (SSSN) will not be subsidised by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme at this time.

If a PBS subsidised medicine is required, the pharmacist will need to speak to the prescriber and obtain a new script in accordance with the PBS regulations.
