Shortage of meningococcal B vaccine reaches Australia

ABC News

14 July 2016 - The company that produces the potentially lifesaving meningococcal B vaccine says a global supply shortage has now hit Australia.

The vaccine, Bexsero, is made by the company GlaxoSmithKline and is only available on the private market, as it is not included in the Australian Immunisation Program schedule.

"Globally, Bexsero is in high demand; and we have seen this increase in demand reflected in Australia as well - the shortage will be for the next few months," a company spokesperson said.
