Stan Zemanek’s widow Marcella calls for more funding into rare cancers

Daily Telegraph

2 April 2017 - The widow of radio broadcaster Stan Zemanek has made an emotional plea to the federal government to urgently increase funding for brain cancer as research shows deaths from “rare” cancers are increasing.

Marcella Zemanek said it was only after her husband’s death from glioblastoma multiforme Grade 4 in 2007 that she learnt how little funding brain cancer research received.

She said this was despite the cancer being the biggest killer of children and adults under 40.

In a submission to a Senate inquiry into the funding of rare cancers, Ms Zemanek said she was shocked to learn at how poor survival rates were for the cancer.
