2 September 2020 - Deb Sims knows she’s on her last chance to beat the blood cancer that has dogged her for nearly a decade, but she’s using some of her valuable time to make sure no one else has to fight like she did to get treatment.
Ms Sims was 38 and the mother of three young children (aged 7, 5 and 2 at the time) when she was diagnosed in 2011 with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
The disease is a mixed bag for patients - it is not as aggressive as other bone and blood cancers, and may not cause symptoms for several years, but there is no known cure, and all treatments for it merely hold the cancer at bay.
