Theresa May tells drugs firm to make a deal and end misery

13 June 2019 - Prime Minister Theresa May told MPs that the deal being proposed... a £108million-a-year contract... was fair and that pharmaceutical giant Vertex “should now accept”. 

Meanwhile Health Minister Seema Kennedy has threatened to use a legal loophole to suspend Vertex’s patent on Orkambi so the drug can be manufactured by another supplier. 

Cystic fibrosis sufferers are desperate to be able to access the treatment, which can dramatically prolong lives. But the NHS has ruled the price being demanded by Vertex is more than it can afford.
