Thomas Kaiser becomes the new head of IQWiG

16 February 2023 - The current head of the IQWiG department for drug assessment succeeds Jürgen Windeler, who is retiring after more than 12 years at the head of the institute.

Dr medical Thomas Kaiser (53 years old), who worked as a system developer before studying medicine, has headed the IQWiG department for drug assessment since the institute was founded in 2004 (together with Dr. rer. nat. Beate Wieseler). Her team is therefore also responsible for more than 660 early benefit assessments of new drugs as part of the AMNOG process that started in 2011. Among other things, Kaiser is the winner of the David Sackett Prize of the German Network for Evidence-Based Medicine in 2011 (award for the department of drug evaluation for work on unpublished data).
