Timaru mother with terminal bowel cancer calling on Government to fund cetuximab

5 February 2020 - A terminally ill woman shelling out more than $12,000 a year for extra time with her family is calling on the Government to fund the drug keeping her bowel cancer at bay.

Emma Steven has been taking cetuximab, a drug meant to stop cancer cells from growing, since being diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer a year ago. 

Combining it with “standard” chemotherapy at St George’s Cancer Care until July, the drug has been “doing wonders” for the 38-year-old Timaru mother of two.
