TPP 'no threat to medicine'

PBAC
11 December 3013 - Trade Minister Andrew Robb has hit back at warnings that a mammoth regional trade deal could push up the cost of medicine, insisting he was not considering any changes that would compromise healthcare.

The assurance came after leaked documents revealed Australia's negotiating position in talks with the US and 10 other Asia-Pacific countries on trade rules including a \"medicines annex\" that might force changes to Australian policy.

The documents, released by WikiLeaks on Monday, showed that Australia had rejected the US position on two aspects of pharmaceuticals trade -- called \"linkage\" and \"data protection\" -- but was one of the few to agree with the US on the medicines annex.
