Trump announces 100% tariffs on brand name drugs, with plenty of carveouts
2 April 2026 - The taxes won’t apply to many large drugmakers or to some of the US’ biggest trading partners
Many large drug makers won’t have to pay the tax because they’ve struck deals with the US to build manufacturing facilities here and lower the prices of their medications. Drug makers that haven’t struck those deals but pledge to bring production to the US can have their tariffs reduced to 20% for the remainder of Trump’s term.
