Valeant is back to its old drug pricing ways

1 July 2018 - Prices for diarrhoea drug are up as smaller pill package is dropped, milligram price is raised.

A controversy over massive price increases, along with other scandals, wrecked Valeant Pharmaceutical’s reputation as well as its stock price in recent years.

But today, it seems, the company is back to its old ways.

Valeant is using two techniques to raise prices on one of its best-selling drugs: it has increased the size of the package of its diarrhea medication, called Xifaxan, by 43%, from 42 pills to 60, and it is charging about 6% more per milligram, according to an analyst note by Mizuho’s Irina Koffler.
