31 July 2018 - Australians are “rightly” concerned about the Turnbull government’s controversial My Health Record scheme and the security and privacy requirements of the record may need to change in order for government to regain the public's trust, Australia’s Acting Privacy Commissioner says.
In an interview with Fairfax Media, federal Acting Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk said she had been in discussions with Health Minister Greg Hunt and the Australian Digital Health Agency, which administers My Health Record, about her concerns with the system.
It follows widespread condemnation of the scheme, including by five former presidents of the Australian Medical Association, who, in addition to Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, have all pushed for the opt-out roll-out to be suspended.
