Battle for wonder drug pays off

13 September 2018 - A West Pymble mother feels the “weight of the world” has been lifted following the federal government’s decision to subsidise an expensive, life-extending drug for her ailing daughter.

Vivienne Dimmick praised the government’s move to list the drug Orkambi on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

It means her nine-year-old daughter Charli, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, autism and an intellectual disability, will have access to the drug at a concessional rate of $6.40 a week. Otherwise it would cost about $250,000 a year.
