Campaign wants patients to have more influence on PBS

3 June 2019 - Australian patients should be given greater say in the medicines that receive government reimbursement as consumers become more empowered to take charge of their healthcare.

That is the argument made in a new report out today, commissioned by drug company BMS Australia, which makes a push for patients to become more involved in discussions about what treatments should be reimbursed through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

Jo Watson, chairman of the health department’s health technology assessment consumer consultative committee, said, as witnessed across all sectors of healthcare, there was wide recognition of putting the patient at the centre of their care.
