Coalition to simplify private health policies

2 January 2016 - The Turnbull government will consider a plan to streamline thousands of private health insurance policies into simple gold, silver and bronze categories as early as next month, amid mounting pressure to help members find a better deal.

The private health ministerial advisory committee has shaped the three distinct categories and sent its proposal to government actuaries, who will now examine the likely impact on premiums.

With premiums set to rise about 5 per cent in April, the government is keen to offer reforms that will help members secure value for money and benefit from improved transparency and competition in the market.
