Find common ground on health: Roxon

1 September 2017 - Former health minister Nicola Roxon has warned that Australia’s healthcare leaders need to find common ground to push for reform, arguing that governments are only brave when industry create the environment for them to act.

Ms Roxon, health minister in the Rudd government and a director on Bupa’s board, said most big healthcare reforms, such as Medicare, Medibank and NDIS, occurred when the community and stakeholders put aside some of their more “petty” differences.

“I don’t see enough dialogue today between the different parts of the sector to really help make the ground fertile for government to act,” Ms Roxon said yesterday during Bupa’s future of healthcare luncheon in Sydney.
