Japan's MHLW presents drug pricing changes

23 November 2017 - Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has proposed changes to its reimbursement policy that would increase the frequency of mandatory price cuts for branded drugs, and remove some exemptions from the price cuts.

On Wednesday, MHLW presented proposed reforms to the Central Social Insurance Medical Council (Chuikyo), which sets drug prices in Japan.

Under the proposed changes, mandatory repricing of branded drugs would occur annually beginning in FY21, rather than every two years under current procedures.
