Mum says 'miracle' drug saved ill baby Kaan Hunter's life

21 January 2020 - A baby who was given only four months to live after being diagnosed with an extremely rare and fatal bone disease is now 6 months old and thriving, mum says.

Kaan Hunter was only 2 weeks old when he was diagnosed at Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital with infantile hypophosphatasia.

Mother Tracey Roberts, 26, was told the medication that could save his life would cost $250,000 a year and was not funded by PHARMAC. Without it, Kaan's life expectancy was only four to six months.
