PHARMAC to review its practices following criticism of breast cancer drug funding

13 February 2019 - The government's drug-buying agency has announced it has begun an internal review following a petition and letter demanding its processes be put under the microscope.

PHARMAC board chair Steve Maharey and chief executive Sarah Fitt confirmed the review during Wednesday's Health Select Committee, however, said it was not an acknowledgement that the system was broken.

"It works and we know in countries all over the world people ask 'how are you doing that? how do you get those health outcomes for that amount of money?," Maharey said.
