27 July 2016 - The release of the discussion paper of the Review of Pharmacy Remuneration and Regulation is an important opportunity to highlight the vital role of community pharmacy in the health system.
The discussion paper raises many thought-provoking questions about the pharmacy sector and the way it delivers Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme medicines to the Australian public.
It is the Guild’s strongly held view that the current community pharmacy model serves Australian health care consumers and taxpayers extremely well. The delivery of PBS medicines through the network of community pharmacies is an outstanding success story within our health system. It is a model which should be built on for the benefit of patients – not dismantled in the name of deregulation or economic theories.
The Guild will make a formal response to the discussion paper, and will also encourage individual pharmacy owners to respond to the Review with their views and ideas to enhance the value of community pharmacy. The Guild has prepared a number of member only resources to assist members in understanding the review process and giving feedback.
